In this blog, Iʼll discuss what subcultures are but we need to clear a few points before I begin discussing subcultures, such as,
What is culture really?
Culture in a broad sense is a way of life, the beliefs, rules and set principles that give meaning to one's way of living. It is the idea of that particular era or time that society once lived in which governed their thoughts and progression through their personal development (CrashCourse, 2017).
And, according to the dictionary,

(Culture, n.d.)
Pretty straightforward. Everyone in society has been brought up in some sort of culture. A living standard, if so.
And, what is subculture?

(Subculture n.d.) Subculture was formed in the mid-1960s, The Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies (CCCS) at the University of Birmingham where a research study was conducted and led by Richard Hoggart who deciphered the various youth subcultures (Grinnell College, 2016). It was common to see different subcultures such as bikers, punk-rockers, mods, hippies, etc (Taylor, 2019). Subculture does not necessarily disobey the norms of traditional culture but creates a culture based on preferences and personal ideas. It is meso-level subcommunity. It is neither a large group to be called its own culture neither is it small to ignore it, such as cheerleading or college students (Subculture vs counterculture, n.d.). It is enough to be labeled a subculture because of its inspiring ideas from a larger part of the mainstream culture, such as a cohesive belief and ideology. For example, how punk rockers think and understand the way of life or the peace and love symbolism that the hippies signify. However, counter-culture is the idea of opposing the very rules and methods of mainstream culture. As subculture can still hold on to its traditional mainstream cultures and methodology while forming newer sub-groups within society, counter-culture takes a toss signifying that the notions of society are incorrect and one must not follow them (Culture Worlds, n.d.). For examples, Hippies during the 1960ʼs which arose due to Americaʼs involved with the Vietnam. I believe culture is a part of our daily life, we grow up with our "national" culture, such as, me having an Indian-Hindu culture, while it make differ completely from an Indian-Muslim culture. One cannot really isolate themselves from a culture or subcultures, it is how we connect with society. I would go on an leap and say that the anti-social community or introverts are in itself a subculture of its own. REFERENCES: CrashCourse. (2017, May 22nd).
