As an amateur learner and participator for the live sound engineering activity, the thought about it can be overwhelming and petrifying. There have been a ton of different directions numerous live sound engineers have done to bring studio-like quality music to the general public, and the responsibilities are not easy.
The sheer will and compassion to be able to work day in and day out, between different concerts, and events are extremely difficult and require raw-strength, will, and courage. In this particular blog post, I shall demonstrate a certain quality each live sound engineer demonstrates during a performance if that maybe a concert of an artist/band, a showcase, radio, an event or at conventions/conferences.
A general guide for all live sound engineers to have trained ears have a good understanding of how sound works (acoustics), experience, extensive knowledge on signal flow, EQ-ing, gain staging and the versatile knowledge of being able to handle any live desk (Pack, 2017).
A good list of live-sound engineer jobs and participants are as follows:
Monitor sound engineers - such an engineer would take care of the in-ear monitors for musicians/artists on the stage. Where there is a certain level balance or frequency adjustment that is required for each member specifically, the monitor sound engineer is the ones who are able to adjust this to fine increments (Mcdonald, 2019). And
Systems engineers - the individuals at this section are the ones who take care of the live desks, P.A. systems, speakers or amplifiers. They are able to create a balance for the live audience according to the climate, positions of the delay-speakers, or acoustics if the venue is indoors (Mcdonald, 2019).
This list is brief and can be extended by anyone working in the live sound environment. It is crucial to note that there are many personal-guitar technicians for the bands/artist that handle rigs and gear explicitly. These are not related to the live sound engineer crew.
