Being a good leader and taking responsibilities of one's action is one of the hardest tasks and it can portray the leaders' behavior in numerous different ways amongst people around him or her. I have not taken the chance upon me to lead a team of individuals into an eventful journey as it can be challenging for some and natural for others. However, with the research and my ability to believe in myself, I am trying to understand what leadership has and how I could implicate these familiar qualities within me and interpret it in a much broader aspect.

There are a few essential developing characteristics a leader-in-making must have to be successful. Young and Blagg have given an intrinsic detail about how communication and hard truths make up a good leader (Young & Blagg, 2001).

To an ordinary person this is quite a daily notion of speech or value, but as a leader, it can be a complicated procedure. These two concepts have various meanings in different situations and scenarios. Being able to make things easy and straightforward as a leader and to communicate with your employees or personnel is often a challenging task. To over-complicate something shows the fluidity that a leader does not have in his or her beliefs. Also, they can tell the community or individuals the bitter truth regarding the progress of the situation or any activity, the prospects or the present.

A few other characteristics can also be valued and taken note of such as creativity, vision and ideas, moral values, and passion. These points make a person a leader not only by definition but around the community they inspire (McNamara, n.d.).

Being a terrible leader or a “bad” leader for lack of a better word is no excuse, there comes nothing good from being an inadequate leader. According to Myatt a leadership advisor on Forbes (2011) it is necessary for one to be able to find who a lousy leader is. Admittedly, not everyone is perfect but being a leader means taking up responsibilities and methods that no one else would and with the experience comes to practice. A few significant buzzers on how an inadequate leader can be identified is on their lack of vision and clarity of future goals and prospects. When their ego takes the best of them and the lack of communication or inspiration he or she delivers to the community or the world.

With my transition into the real world, responsibilities will arrive, and the chance of me being a leader will be bestowed upon me. Looking back at the research about the qualities a leader must and must not have is indispensable mainly for me as I could either shape a group or a community or tear them down.
